Men's Tennis Finishes Eighth at BIG EAST Tournament

The Boston College mens tennis team finished eighth at the 1999 BIG EAST Tennis Tournament played in Coral Gables, Fla. from April 22-25.
After defeating Georgetown, 4-1, the eighth-seeded Eagles lost to top-seeded Notre Dame (4-0), #6 Connecticut (4-3) and #7 Providence (4-2). BC finished ninth last season.
Playing in the No. 1 singles spot, junior assistant captain Anand Annigeri went 2-2. He won in straight-sets against Georgetown and Providence. Annigeri finished the season with an overall record of 24-16-1, capturing the most singles wins on the team.
Sophomore Jason Cowett went 1-1 in the No. 2 spot. He won his match against Connecticut but lost in the Providence match. Cowett went 11-22 this season.
In the No. 3 spot, senior captain Chris Amundsen went 2-1. He won his match against Georgetown and lost in the Connecticut match. Amundsen finished the season at 10-20-1.
Freshman Marc Lucero went 1-2 in Florida. He won a three-set match against Connecticut. Lucero ranked second on the team with 20 singles wins this season.
Junior Chris Mercurio won one of three matches while playing in the No. 4 spot. Mercurio finished the season with a 10-11 singles record.
In the No. 6 position was freshman Brad Hughes. Hughes went 1-1 with his win coming in the Connecticut match. Hughes finished the season with a 10-13 overall record.
In the doubles competition, the top duo - Annigeri and Cowett - went 1-1. The tandem won against Providence and finished the season with a 20-12 overall record.
The No. 2 doubles team - Amundsen and sophomore Matt Stutz - went 2-2. The duo defeated doubles teams from Georgetown and Providence.
The Eagles finished the season with a 15-14 dual match record. The 1-3 finish in the BIG EAST Tournament ranked the Eagles eighth overall.
