Game 1 - Hartford 1 September 1, 1998 - Natick High School
Boston College 2
(1-0) After falling behind 1-0, the Eagles rebounded behind goals from sophomores Kevin Boyd and Brian Mollo. Boyd's tally came at 18:29 off a cross from freshman Chris Cleary. Mollo scored the gamewinner three minutes after halftime off a 25-yard pass from classmate Sjur Gundersen. The Eagles and the Hawks played a physical match that yielded eight yellow cards. The Eagle defense was stellar, allowing only five shots, zero on goal.
Game 2 - UMass-Lowell 0 September 3, 1998 - Natick High School
Boston College 3
(2-0) Senior Chris Lynch began the scoring from 18 yards three minutes before halftime. Sjur Gundersen notched his second assist of the season. Freshman Chris Cleary tallied his first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute. Sophomore Kevin Boyd and freshman Eyvind Aasen assisted on Cleary's goal. Freshman Roy Beverage capped the game's scoring at 80:12 with an unassisted goal. Sophomore Chris Hamblin and senior Mike Babst combined for BC's first shutout.
Game 3 - #12 Boston Univ. 1 September 6, 1998 - Natick High School
Boston College 0
(2-1) The undefeated Eagles hosted crosstown rival BU for their third consecutive home match. The evenly played game remained scoreless for 71 minutes until the Terriers' Matt McManus scored the gamewinner from five yards. BC outshot BU 12-9 but could not convert on numerous scoring opportunities from inside the box. Sophomore Chris Hamblin made two saves.
Game 4 - Boston College 2 September 12, 1998 - Providence, R.I.
#11 Brown 0
(3-1) Second-half goals by senior Danny Horan and freshman Eyvind Aasen gave the Eagles a 2-0 victory over #11 Brown in the opening round of the Brown University Invitational. Horan scored his first career goal at 75:18 off an assist from sophomore Martin Cantillo. Freshman Eyvind Aasen tallied an unassisted goal in the 85th minute to seal the victory. Chris Hamblin made three saves to record BC's second shutout.
Game 5 - Boston College 0 (OT)September 13, 1998 - Providence, R.I.
Yale 0
(3-1-1) Sophomore Chris Hamblin made eight saves in 120 minutes to preserve his second consecutive shutout in the Brown University Invitational. The Eagles were outshot 25-15 by the Bulldogs but still had chances to score.
Game 6 - Boston College 0 September 18, 1998 - Syracuse, N.Y.
Syracuse 3
(3-2-1, 0-1) BC began its three-game BIG EAST road trip in Syracuse, N.Y. The Eagles fell behind early when Syracuse's Gabriel Gervais tallied a goal in the ninth minute. Four minutes after halftime, SU's Patrice Bernier scored the first of his two goals to give the Orangemen a two-goal advantage. Bernier finished off the Eagles with his tally at 81:16. Chris Hamblin made two saves in defeat.
Game 7 - Boston College 0 September 20, 1998 - Jamaica, N.Y.
#8 St. John's 3
(3-3-1, 0-2) BC played hard against the favored Red Storm. The score was 0-0 until the 52:22 mark when St. John's Pablo Budna scored the first of his two goals to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead. The Eagles fell behind by two goals when Danny Parkin scored for St. John's. Budna tallied his second goal and finalized the score at 3-0. The Red Storm could manage only seven shots against the stingy BC defense. Sophomore Chris Hamblin made three saves.
Game 8 - Boston College 0 September 26, 1998 - Morgantown, W.V.
West Virginia 2
(3-4-1, 0-3) BC's three-game BIG EAST road trip ended with a 2-0 loss to West Virginia. The Mountaineers' Matt Tanzini scored in the first half and Chin Orih tallied a goal in the second half to extend BC's losing streak to three games. The Eagles outshot WVU 24-16 but could not end their scoring drought. Chris Hamblin made two saves.
Game 9 - #1 UConn 3 (OT)September 30, 1998 - Natick High School
Boston College 2
(3-5-1, 0-4) BC played its finest game of the season against the nation's top-ranked team but lost a 3-2 overtime heartbreaker to UConn. The Huskies' Mansour Ndiaye scored his second goal of the game with just 39 seconds remaining in overtime to steal the victory. Freshman Eyvind Aasen began the game's scoring at 42:59 to give the Eagles a 1-0 halftime lead. UConn scored two consecutive goals to take a 2-1 advantage. BC's Danny Horan tallied the equalizer in the 63rd minute to knot the game at 2-2. Ndiaye broke the hearts of the BC fans with his goal off a long throw-in. Chris Hamblin made three saves for the Eagles.
Game 10 - Pittsburgh 0 October 3, 1998 - Natick High School
Boston College 3
(4-4-2, 1-4) Sophomore Kevin Boyd tallied two goals to lead the Eagles to their first BIG EAST victory, a 3-0 rout over Pittsburgh. Keith McDonald blasted a shot from 20 yards 32 minutes into the game. McDonald took the ball from a Pittsburgh midfielder, turned and fired a bullet past the diving Panther keeper. Boyd followed four minutes later to give BC a 2-0 lead. His third goal of the season, second of the game, capped the scoring in the 57th minute. Chris Hamblin made five saves to record the shutout.
Game 11 - Boston College 0 October 6, 1998 - Hanover, N.H.
#14 Dartmouth 1
(4-6-1, 1-4) Dartmouth's Chris Pedrick scored the game-winning goal on a bicycle kick with 1:47 remaining in regulation to give the Big Green a 1-0 victory. Chris Hamblin made seven saves for the Eagles.
Game 12 - Boston College 0 October 10, 1998 - South Orange, N.J.
#14 Seton Hall 0
(4-6-2, 1-4-1) Sophomore Chris Hamblin made nine saves in 120 minutes to preserve the shutout. It was the second time the Eagles played a to a 0-0 tie (Yale). Both Eyvind Aasen and Kevin Boyd fired three shots for BC but neither of them could score.
Game 13 - Villanova 0 October 17, 1998 - Taunton Field
Boston College 3
(5-6-2, 2-4-1) Freshman Chris Cleary notched one goal and added one assist to lead the Eagles to their second conference victory, a 3-0 victory over Villanova. After a scoreless first half, Cleary notched what proved to be the gamewinner at 55:35. Danny Horan added an insurance goal in the 84th minute off an assist from Cleary. Senior Chris Lynch scored his second goal of 1998 at 88:10 to give BC a three-goal cushion.
Game 14 - #19 Rutgers 1 October 18, 1998 - Taunton Field
Boston College 0
(5-7-2, 2-5-1) The BC defense played well against a strong Rutgers attack, keeping the game scoreless until the 80th minute. Rutgers' Dennis Ludwig broke the scoreless deadlock with his goal at 79:06 off assists from Dustin Sheppard and Simon Forster. Sophomore Chris Hamblin was well positioned for most of the game, making nine saves.
Game 15 - Notre Dame 3 October 24, 1998 - Belmont Hill
Boston College 0
(5-8-2, 2-6-1) Notre Dame's Andrew Aris tallied two goals to lead the Fighting Irish to a 3-0 BIG EAST win over BC. The Eagles controlled the game until the 36th minute when Aris snuck behind the defense and headed a ball past Eagle goalkeeper Chris Hamblin. Aris notched his second goal at 76:05 and ND's Matt Johnson capped the game's scoring at 77:32. Hamblin made one save before being relieved by Mike Babst.
Game 16 - Boston College 0 October 28, 1998 - Providence, R.I.
Providence 2
(5-9-2, 2-7-1) Providence scored a goal in each half to capture a 2-0 victory over Boston College in the last road game of the season. The Friars' Andy McConuille notched the first goal at 41:10 and PC's Andy Bussman finished off BC with his goal in the 76th minute. Chris Hamblin made seven saves.
Game 17 - Georgetown 2 November 1, 1998 - Belmont Hill
Boston College 1
(5-10-2, 2-8-1) Georgetown's Kyle Rakow tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Hoyas to a 2-1 BIG EAST victory over Boston College in BC's season finale. The Hoyas' Eric Kvello began the scoring in the 13th minute and Rakow gave GU a two-goal adavantage with his tally at 59:27. Playing in his final collegiate game, BC senior Chris Lynch cut the lead in half at the 69-minute mark, but the Eagles would not score again. Chris Hamblin made eight saves.
