EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Seton Hall held Boston College without a field goal for the final 8:34 of the first half Wednesday in notching its seventh straight win, a 79-63 victory over the Eagles.
Seton Hall, off to its best start since 1994-95, is now 9-3 and 3-0 in the Big East. Boston College (3-8, 0-3), which had beaten the Hall six straight times, lost for the sixth time in seven games.
Boston College was very much in the game when Osei Millar hit a short jumper from the key with 8:35 remaining in the half, pulling the Eagles within 20-18. Seton Hall then reeled off the next 23 points, including nine by Gary Saunders and eight by Rimas Kaukenas, before Brian Ross finally hit two free throws for the Eagles with 1:02 left in the half.
Saunders, who tallied 15 first-half points, closed the half with a layup, giving the Hall a commanding 45-20 edge.
The Eagles rallied briefly in the second half, pulling within 52-40 on two free throws by Clinton Sims. But Seton Hall scored nine in a row, with Shahen Holloway hitting a pair of 3-pointers, to pull away.
Kaukenas, Ty Shine and Chuck Moore all had 12 for Seton Hall, while Sims led BC with 21.
