BOSTON - Johnny Hemsley scored 21 points, leading a balanced attack that carried No. 25 Miami to a 75-67 victory over Boston College Sunday.
Tim James scored 16 points, Mario Bland 14 and John Salmons 10 for the Hurricanes (12-4 overall, 6-2 Big East).
Dwayne Pina scored a career-high 17 points and Kenny Harley had 16 for the Eagles (3-14, 0-9), losers of eight straight.
After Boston College took its first lead of the game, 40-39, on Harley's jumper with 15:20 to go, the Hurricanes went on a 9-0 run to take control.
Bland put Miami back in front with a follow-up basket, Salmons had a steal and breakaway layup before Hemsley capped the run with a 3-point play.
The teams traded baskets over the next four minutes before the Hurricanes scored eight straight points for a 62-48 lead with less than six minutes to play.
The Eagles narrowed the deficit to 64-58 on Pina's 3-pointer with less than three minutes left, but Miami scored the next two baskets to seal the win.
The Hurricanes hit four 3-pointers during a 21-6 run midway through the first half in building a 26-11 lead. But the Eagles countered with their own long-range shooting, connecting on 6-of-8 3-pointers during a 18-7 spree that closed the gap to 37-33 at halftime.
The start of the game was delayed 10 minutes because of a leak in the roof. During the first half, condensation also formed on various spots on the floor, causing players to slip and play to be halted occasionally.
