Men's Hockey Tops Amherst, 6-1

AMHERST, Mass. -- Freshman forward Brian Gionta registered two goals and two assists and junior forward Marty Reasoner recorded one goal and two assists to lead Boston College to a 6-1 HOCKEY EAST win over UMass-Amherst at the Mullins Center.
The win raised BCs overall record to 22-8-4, and assured the Eagles of at least a second-place finish in the HOCKEY EAST standings. Boston College concludes its regular-season slate on Saturday, March 7 at Northeastern.
Junior Andy Powers scored BCs only goal of the first period, and the game was tied 1-1 at the first intermission. Freshmen Bobby Allen and Gionta netted second-period goals to give the visitors a 3-1 lead after two periods. Gionta, sophomore Blake Bellefeuille and Reasoner added insurance tallies in the final 20 minutes.
Freshman Scott Clemmensen made 22 saves in the BC net.
