CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Senior forward Chris Masters scored two goals and classmate Andy Powers netted the game-tying goal as top-ranked Boston College rallied from a three-goal, third-period deficit to earn a 5-5 overtime tie with eighth-ranked Notre Dame before 7,770 fans at Kelley Rink.
Notre Dame led 2-1 after one period and extended its advantage to 5-2 after two periods, before the host Eagles scored three goals in less than three minutes to tie the score. Masters made the score 5-3 at 6:33, and then trimmed the ND margin to one goal at 8:18. Powers' tally at 9:31 completed the Eagles comeback.
After junior Jeff Farkas gave Boston College an early lead with a power-play goal at 5:28 of the opening period, the Irish answered with three consecutive goals to take charge. ND junior Ben Simon evened the score - also on the power play - at 12:35, before senior Aniket Dhadphale put the visitors in front at 17:51. The Irish extended their advantage 18 seconds into the middle period on senior Brian Urick's goal.
After BC junior Tony Hutchins brought the Eagles to within one goal with a power-play tally at 9:58 of the middle period, Notre Dame netted two man-advantage goals to take a 5-2 lead. With the Irish enjoying a two-man advantage, sophomore Dan Carlson scored at 14:09, and classmate Matt Van Arkel struck 14 seconds later to give the Irish a comfortable cushion.
BC sophomore Scott Clemmensen finished with 27 saves, while ND senior Forrest Karr made 23 stops.
BC returns to action on Friday, November 13 against Northeastern. Game time is 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
