Men's Hockey Falls to Merrimack, 5-2

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Boston College freshman Jeff Giuliano tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Eagles in a 5-2 loss at Merrimack before 2,082 fans at the Volpe Complex.
The Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead when Kris Porter scored with 16 seconds remaining in the first period. Giulianos second career goal tied the game early in the second period. Giuliano was the recipient of a perfect feed from junior Mike Mottau and converted on the breakaway.
Merrimack (11-19-1, 7-13-1 HOCKEY EAST) struck with two power-play goals in 55 seconds to take a 3-1 advantage six minutes into the second period.
The Eagles (19-11-4, 13-7-2 HOCKEY EAST) showed spark in the beginning of the third period and cut the lead to one goal when sophomore Mike Lephart fired a shot over the shoulder of Merrimacks goalie at 5:15 of the final stanza.
The Warriors ended the Eagles hopes with two goals late in the third period. BC outshot the Warriors, 35-24.
Boston College sophomore goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 19 saves. Merrimacks Tom Welby made 33 stops.
Boston College returns to HOCKEY EAST action on Friday, March 5 at Boston University.
