Men's Hockey Falls to Maine, 2-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Barrett Heisten's goal at 16:18 of the third period lifted second-ranked Maine to a 2-1 HOCKEY EAST victory over fifth-ranked Boston College before a crowd of 7,311 in BC's Kelley Rink.
The game marked a rematch of last year's HOCKEY EAST Tournament title game, which Boston College won, 3-2.
Boston College outshot Maine, 39-25, in the contest, but Maine goalie Alfie Michaud made 38 stops to earn his 12th win of the year. BC sophomore Scott Clemmensen finished with 23 saves.
BC sophomore forward Brian Gionta, in his first game back after playing for Team USA in the World Junior Championships, opened the scoring 49 seconds into the second period. The goal was Gionta's 11th of the season.
Maine evened the score at 1-1 on junior Cory Larose's goal at 13:32 of the second period, setting the stage for Heisten's gamewinner. Heisten also played for Team USA in the World Junior Championships in Winnipeg.
Senior Steve Kariya assisted on both Maine goals.
Boston College and Maine meet in the second game of the series on Saturday, January 9. Game time is 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
