LOWELL, Mass. - Boston College used two third-period goals to capture a 3-2 come-from-behind win over UMass-Lowell in front of 3,857 fans at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass.
The Eagles (19-10-2, 13-6-0 HOCKEY EAST) trailed 2-1 with nine minutes remaining in the game before sophomore forward Mike Lephart tallied his ninth goal of the season. Lephart deflected freshman Jeff Giuliano's shot past UMass-Lowell goalie Scott Fankhouser.
With under three minutes to play in the final stanza, the comeback was completed when senior forward Nick Pierandri fired a wrist shot under the pads of Fankhouser. It was Pierandri's third goal of the season, his second game-winning tally in the past three games.
Midway through the first period, junior Jeff Farkas gave BC a 1-0 advantage with his 25th goal of the season. Farkas collected a rebound off his own shot and scored at 9:59.
The River Hawks' Doug Nolan netted two second-period goals to give his team a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.
UMass-Lowell (16-14-0, 8-12-0 HOCKEY EAST) outshot Boston College 32-31 but were continually stopped by the stellar play of BCs sophomore goaltender Scott Clemmensen. Clemmensen finished with 30 saves to earn his 19th win of the season. Fankhouser finished with 28 saves for UMass-Lowell.
The Eagles will return to HOCKEY EAST action when they host New Hampshire on Feb. 20. Game time is 7 p.m.
