CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior forward Chris Masters tallied two goals and one assist to lead Boston College to a 7-2 HOCKEY EAST win against Merrimack in the regular-season finale before 5,169 fans at BCs Kelley Rink.
Boston College (21-11-4) finished the regular season in third place in HOCKEY EAST. The Eagles will host UMass-Lowell in the first game of the league tournament's quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 11.
BC junior defenseman Mike Mottau notched three assists in the victory. He currently leads the nation's defensemen with 35 assists.
Boston College led 2-1 after one period. After Merrimack's Gregg Classen opened the scoring at 8:40 of the first period, BC's Masters evened the score at 11:14. Junior Kevin Caulfield gave the Eagles the lead for good at 18:18.
BC junior Jeff Farkas netted his 27th goal of the season at 14:02 of the middle period, and classmate Blake Bellefeuille scored a power-play goal at 19:03 to give BC a 4-1 advantage after two periods.
Masters netted his second goal of the night just 45 seconds into the final period, before Merrimack sophomore Joey Gray scored at 6:48 to narrow the BC lead to 5-2. BC freshmen Jeff Giuliano and Ales Dolinar finished the scoring.
Seniors Andy McLaughlin (nine saves) and Mike Correia (five saves) split the BC goaltending duties. The game marked the first game this season that sophomore Scott Clemmensen has not started in the BC net. Merrimack's Cris Classen (27 saves) and Roland Sperlich (two saves) also shared netminding duties.
