Men's Hockey Defeats Merrimack, 2-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Boston College scored two first-period goals and held on for a 2-1 HOCKEY EAST win over Merrimack College in front of 2,305 spectators at the Volpe Complex in North Andover, Mass.
Junior forward Jeff Farkas gave the Eagles an early one-goal lead when he scored his 15th tally of the season. Farkas linemates - sophomore Mike Lephart and senior Chris Masters - assisted on the goal at 1:25 of the opening period.
The Eagles held a 2-0 advantage when sophomore defenseman Bobby Allen powered home a rebound at 7:48 of the first period. Allens rebound came off a Nick Pierandri shot. Senior Matt Mulhern also added an assist.
Sophomore goaltender Scott Clemmensen pitched a shutout until Merrimacks Sandy Cohen tallied his goal with 32 seconds remaining in the third period. The Warriors goal came after Merrimack pulled sophomore netminder Tom Welby.
BC was strong at both ends of the ice, firing 45 shots and holding the Warriors to 21 shots.
Clemmensen made 20 saves for the Eagles, while Welby made 43 saves for Merrimack.
With the victory, Boston College improves to 9-4-1 overall, 6-3 in HOCKEY EAST. Merrimack falls to 7-7 overall, 4-4 in HOCKEY EAST. The Eagles return to action on December 27 when they face Colorado College in the first round of the Denver Cup. BC will play its second game of the tournament on December 28 against either Denver or Lake Superior State.
