CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College junior Blake Bellefeuille netted his first hat trick of the season while adding two assists, and sophomore Brian Gionta tallied two goals and four assists to lead the Eagles in a 7-4 win over Maine before a sold-out crowd of 7,884 at BCs Kelley Rink.
Senior Andy Powers, Bellefeuille and Giontas linemate, added one goal and three assists to complete a dominating performance by BCs top line.
The Eagles (12-6-2, 7-4-0 HOCKEY EAST) took an early lead with three first-period goals. Powers opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the year six minutes into the game. BC took a two-goal lead when senior Nick Pierandri netted his first goal of the season midway through the opening stanza. Gionta added his 12th goal, second of the weekend, at 15:38.
Maine (14-2-4, 7-2-2 HOCKEY EAST) cut the deficit to 3-1 when Barrett Heisten tallied his second goal of the two-game series at 4:29 of the second period. The Eagles regained a three-goal lead when Bellefeuille notched his ninth power-play goal of the season.
The Black Bears Ben Guite brought Maine within two goals before Bellefeuille tallied his second goal of the game at 12:11 of the second period. Bellefeuille secured the hat trick with his 13th goal of the season, eight minutes into the final period. Gionta assisted on all three of Bellefeuilles goals.
Maines Dan Kerluke tallied two consecutive goals before Gionta finished the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:44.
Boston Colleges Scott Clemmensen made 23 saves to earn his 12th win. Maines Alfie Michaud made 16 saves in 52 minutes, before being relieved by Mike Morrison. Morrison recorded three saves in 7:52.
