Boston College junior defenseman Mike Mottau (Avon, Mass.) earned HOCKEY EAST Player of the Month honors for October. The assistant captain tallied eight assists in BCs first four games to lead the top-ranked Eagles to a 4-0 record.
Mottau, a Hobey Baker Award candidate, began his three-game scoring streak on Oct. 10 in the championship game of the Ice Breaker Cup against St. Lawrence. Mottau notched two assists in the 3-2 victory. His defensive effort, in addition to his offensive output, helped Mottau earn All-Tournament honors.
This past weekend (Oct. 30-31) the Eagles captured two victories over UMass-Lowell. In BCs HOCKEY EAST opener, Mottau registered two assists in a 7-3 win. The next night, Mottau assisted on the first four goals in a 6-4 victory at Lowell. Five of Mottaus six weeekend assists came on the power play. He leads the team with eight points.
Mottau earned All-America second-team honors last winter after leading the nations defensemen in scoring (13-36-49). He and the Eagles return to action on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. when they host Notre Dame in Chestnut Hill.
