Three players registered two goals each to lead Boston College to an 8-0 win over Toronto in an exhibition hockey game at Kelley Rink. Junior forward Blake Bellefeuille and sophomore defenseman Rob Scuderi each netted two goals and added two assists, while junior forward Jeff Farkas led the Eagles with two goals and three assists.
BC outshot Toronto, 52-5. The Eagles led 2-0 after one period on goals by freshman Jeff Giuliano and Scuderi.
The host Eagles exploded for five second-period goals to extend the lead. Sophomore Bobby Allen began the rally with a goal at 2:09, and Farkas made the score 4-0 with a power-play tally at 6:47. Scuderi added another power-play goal at 10:22, before Bellefeuille scored his first goal of the night just 23 seconds later. Bellefeuille closed the periods scoring with a 4-on-4 goal at 17:36.
Farkas second goal midway through the third period completed the scoring.
Boston College used three goaltenders in the victory. Sophomore Scott Clemmensen played the first period (three saves); senior Mike Correia played the second period (one save); and senior Andy McLaughlin played the final period (one save). Torontos Chris Short made 44 saves.
Boston College (2-0) resumes regular-season play on Friday, October 30 against UMass-Lowell. Game time is 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
BC Notes: For the second consecutive year the Eagles shutout a Canadian opponent. BC blanked the University of Ottawa, 10-0, in last seasons opening game The Eagles capitalized on two of their five power-play opportunities The second period proved to be the strongest for BC - five goals on 22 shots The line of Mike Lephart, Blake Bellefeuille and Jeff Farkas combined for 11 points.
NHL Note: Former Eagle and current St. Louis Blue, Marty Reasoner, scored his first NHL goal tonight against Detroit. Reasoner led Boston College in scoring the past three seasons before departing for the professional ranks.
