CHESTNUT HILL, MA-- Alissa Murphy (San Diego, CA) will represent Boston College on the BIG EAST/Nike All-Star Women's Basketball team that will tour Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, May 28-June 7. The 1998 Tour will mark the ninth consecutive year that the BIG EAST Conference is sending a women's basketball all-star group abroad. Prior to their departure, the players will attend a pre-tour training camp at Seton Hall. Nike, Inc. sponsors the BIG EAST all-star team.
The 12-member squad is comprised of one representative from each BIG EAST school except Syracuse, and will be led by University of Miami head coach Ferne Labati. Syracuse is not included because it is planning a tour of France at the time of the BIG EAST trip. The BIG EAST team will play a six-game schedule that includes the Austrian National Team and USK Prague, considered to be the second best team in the Czech Republic.
Murphy was third on the Eagles in scoring and fourth in rebounding, averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. The sophomore guard averaged 24.6 minutes of play in 28 games and scored in double figures in 13 games.
