Women's Ice Hockey Glides Past Vermont 6-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior co-captain Jen Buckley (Greenwich, Conn.) scored four goals to help Boston College defeat Vermont 6-1 Wednesday at Kelley Rink. Buckley's quadruple tally performance was a first in her three-year career. She is the third Eagle to score at least four goals in a game. Buckley now leads all Eagle scorers with 11 points (nine goals, two assists).
In her first game back from injury, Missy Barsz (Walkertown, N.C.) connected with her linemate, Buckley, for three goals. Defensewoman Michelle Snyder (Palatine, Ill.) assisted on two of those goals while netting her first goal of the season.
Buckley opened the game's scoring, skating around for a wide open shot in front at the 3:49 mark of the first period. With four minutes gone by, Snyder responded with her tally from the point. Buckley then earned her seventh goal of the season at 15:02, care of Barsz and Snyder. Jane Jorge (Allston, Mass.) fed Amber Bobin (Evanston, Ill.), who broke away and beat two Catamount defenders to slip it past goaltender Tiffany Hayes (New Milford, Conn.) for the game's only second period score. That was Jorge's second assist on the night. From the slot, Buckley shoved in Barsz' rebound at 7:12 in the third then added her last goal on Vermont's power play with 19 seconds left in the game.
Anna Towne (Milton, Vt.) recorded UVM's lone goal, getting an assist from Jenny Agnew (Sabattus, Maine) to tie the game at one (7:31). Christy Nentwig (Chesterfield, Mo.) earned the win with only four saves in net. Teammate Sharon VanTuyl (Portage, Mich.) shared the goaltending duties, making two saves. Hayes had 11 saves in the loss for Vermont.
The Eagle defense fought off four UVM power-play opportunities. The Catamounts accumulated only seven shots on goal.
