Freshman guard Troy Bell has been selected as the BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 12, according to an announcement made by the league office.
Bell shared the honor with Seton Hall sophomore guard Darius Lane. Like Bell, Lane hails from Minnesota.
Bell averaged 19.0 points per game in the Eagles? two games between Dec. 6-Dec. 12. On Dec. 7, the freshman netted 21 points in a 50-43 win at Holy Cross. On Dec. 11, Bell registered 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in a 72-66 home win over St. Francis (N.Y.).
Bell?s 21-point effort at Holy Cross was his third consecutive contest with 20 or more points. Bell is one of only six BC players to accomplish that feat in the last 11 years.
Through seven games, Bell is averaging 20.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He is shooting 48.2 percent (41-for-85) from the floor, 54.3 percent (19-for-35) from three-point range, and 90.7 percent (39-for-43) from the foul line.
Bell currently ranks among BIG EAST leaders in five categories. He ranks first in free-throw percentage, three-point field-goal percentage and three-point field goals made, second in scoring, and 15th in field-goal percentage.
This honor is the second in as many weeks for Bell. He also earned the league?s rookie honor for the week ending Dec. 5.
Boston College (5-2) returns to action against Michigan on Sunday, Dec. 19. Game time is 1 p.m. in BC?s Conte Forum.
