CHESTNUT HILL - Senior forward Blake Bellefeuille?s goal at 8:34 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie and lifted Boston College to a 4-2 HOCKEY EAST win over Northeastern before a crowd of 4,347 at Kelley Rink.
BC junior forward Brian Gionta added an insurance goal with 49 seconds remaining to finish the scoring.
After a scoreless first period, Boston College held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the second period only to see the visiting Huskies answer each time and even the score. Junior forward Mike Lephart scored the game?s first goal at 2:27 of the middle stanza, before NU junior forward Matt Keating tied the game at 6:15.
BC junior defenseman Marty Hughes gave the Eagles their second lead of the night at 18:03, but Northeastern?s Keating netted his second goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining in the period to deadlock the game.
Boston College outshot Northeastern 33-20.
Five BC players recorded multiple-point games. Bellefeuille and Gionta both tallied one goal and one assist, while Kevin Caulfield, Krys Kolanos and Jeff Farkas each added two assists.
BC junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 18 saves to earn his fourth win of the season. NU?s Mike Gilhooly made 29 stops.
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, December 7 against Merrimack. Game time is 7 p.m. in BC?s Kelley Rink.
Quick Notes: With their two-point efforts, seniors Blake Bellefeuille and Jeff Farkas both moved up the Eagles? career scoring lists. Bellefeuille now has 136 points ? 64 goals and 72 assists ? in his BC career, tying him for 23rd on the career scoring list with Jack Mulhern (1948-51). His 64 goals place him in a five-way tie for 21st on the school?s career goal-scoring list (alongside Jerry York, Bill Army, Billy O?Dwyer and Mulhern) ? Farkas now has 153 points ? 66 goals and 87 points ? in his BC career, tying him for 16th on the career scoring list with John Cunniff (1963-66) and Billy Daley (1958-61).
