Hockey Signs Three Recruits to National Letters

Three highly-regarded student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play hockey at Boston College, head coach Jerry York announced. The three players who will join the Eagles for the 2000-2001 season are Ben Eaves, a forward who plays for Shattuck-St. Mary?s (Minn.) School, J.D. Forrest, a defenseman from Auburn, N.Y. who plays in USA Hockey?s National Team Development Program, and Tony Voce, a forward from Philadelphia, Pa. who plays at Lawrence (Mass.) Academy.
Eaves, a Faribault, Minn. Resident, has 37 points ? 14 goals and 23 assists ? in 17 games for Shattuck-St. Mary?s this year. He recently returned from Sweden where he played with the U.S. Under-18 Team in the Three Nations Tournament. In 1998-99, he registered 156 points ? 68 goals and 88 assists ? in 71 games for Shattuck-St. Mary?s. Current BC freshman A.J. Walker was a teammate of Eaves? last year.
Forrest, a resident of Auburn, N.Y., is currently the captain of USA Hockey?s Under-17 team. The 1999-2000 season marks his third with the National Team Development Program. In 1998-99, he had 37 points with the NTDP. He has also been active in international competitions. In November 1998, he was a member of the U.S. Under-18 Team that competed in the Three Nations Tournament in Kouruu, Finland. Last spring, he was a member of the U.S. Under-18 Team that participated in the IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Fussen and Kaufbeuren, Germany. This past August, Forrest participated in the USA Hockey National Junior Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Voce, a Philadelphia, Pa. resident, is in his senior season at Lawrence Academy. As a junior, Voce earned All-New England and All-Independent School League (ISL) honors. In 31 games, he led the ISL in scoring with 68 points ? 39 goals and 29 assists. In 1997-98, Voce registered 47 points ? 31 goals and 16 assists ? in 30 games, earning All-ISL honors. An outstanding athlete, Voce earned ISL Co-MVP football honors as a tailback in 1999. In two seasons, he rushed for more than 2,000 yards and scored more than 200 points. He?s also a .400 hitter on Lawrence?s baseball team.
