Volleyball Drops Two Matches Over The Weekend

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team concluded its 1999 season at 13-17 overall (gaining one more victory than last year) and 3-8 in the BIG EAST conference after falling to two conference foes West Virginia and Pittsburgh over the weekend (Nov. 13-14). BC fell 3-1 (15-12, 11-15, 15-10, 15-2) to the Mountaineers Saturday then dropped a 3-0 decision (15-11, 15-11, 15-3) to Pittsburgh Sunday.
For the third consecutive match, freshman Rachel Bach (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) hit double-digit kill totals, earning 12 kills against West Virginia in addition to three block assists. Brooke Shull (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) also totaled 12 kills for the Eagles in the same game. Freshman Lauren Schwer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) turned in a team-leading 19-dig performance in that game, and setter Kyleen Charlton (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Name) assisted on 37 kills Saturday then helped 36 more Sunday at Pittsburgh.
Kristin Sprinkel (Laguna, Calif./Bishop Luers) was credited with 10-plus kills for the 13th time this season as the junior outside hitter stroked 13 against the Panthers Sunday. She was followed by Julia El-Hag's (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) eight-kill, 14-dig, and two-service ace performance Sunday. In the same match, Bach also served two aces.
Co-captain Laura DeLong (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) logged a two-day total of 13 kills, 19 digs and nine blocks, highlighted by seven blocks in the Mountaineer match.
