Volleyball Sweeps Sacred Heart, 3-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Brooke Shull (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) and Rachel Bach (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) each collected 14 kills to help Boston College sweep Sacred Heart (3-35) 3-0 Wednesday in Chestnut Hill. BC improved to 13-15, gaining one more victory than last season.
Shull also posted 11 digs on the night. Bach earned double-digit kill totals for the third consecutive match, tying her season high of 14 digs. Kyleen Charlton (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Name) made 41 assists and a team-leading 12 digs. The junior setter also had two block assists. Co-captain Laura DeLong (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) recorded seven kills and 11 digs with three blocks. Kim Carlson (Batavia, Ill./Rosary) also blocked three balls in addition to two kills.
Carolina Cruz (San Geronimo, Dominican Republic/Los Prados) and Lauren Schwer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) each served two aces. Cruz also had 10 digs.
Sacred Heart was led by Amanda Ayres (Hicksville, NY), who totaled 10 kills, and Katie Sammon (Bellmore, N.Y.) registered 23 assists and two service aces.
BC built steadily upon Brooke Shull's kill that broke a 4-4 tie in the first game. The Eagles claimed the last five consecutive points of that game to win 15-4. BC then used a 15 to 11 kill advantage in game two for a 15-7 decision.
Carolina Cruz served BC to three and two points in the final game. Bach sparked two Eagle points in her service stint before a Sacred Heart sideout at 14-4. The Pioneers fought off one match point before falling 15-6.
BC hits the road, playing at West Virginia Saturday (Nov. 13). Game time is at 2 p.m. Pittsburgh hosts the Eagles the following day at 1 p.m.
