Hockey Receives Top Billing

The Boston College hockey team recently received the top ranking in polls conducted by the HOCKEY EAST coaches and U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO).
In a poll released as part of HOCKEY EAST?s annual media gathering at the FleetCenter on Oct. 5, the Eagles received all eight possible first-place votes to earn the No. 1 billing. New Hampshire, Maine and Providence rounded out the top four.
In the USCHO poll released Oct. 4, Boston College was given the nod as America?s top team. Maine, Michigan State, North Dakota and Michigan complete the top five. The USCHO poll voting constituency consists of college coaches and select media representatives.
Two weeks earlier, The Sporting News Hockey Annual gave the Eagles its No. 1 national ranking.
Led by sixth-year coach Jerry York, Boston College returns 15 lettermen from last seaosn?s team that finished with a 27-12-4 record. The 1998-99 Eagles captured their second straight HOCKEY EAST tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament?s Frozen Four for the second consecutive year.
Boston College opens exhibition action on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. against Queens University of Canada. The regular season begins on Oct. 15 with Bowling Green coming to Kelley Rink for a 7 p.m. contest.
