MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior defenseman Mike Mottau tallied one goal and two assists to lead Boston College to a 4-1 win over host Minnesota before a crowd of 9,532 at Mariucci Arena. The victory gave the Eagles a split of their two-game series with the Golden Gophers. Minnesota won, 5-4 in overtime, one night earlier.
After a scoreless first period, Mottau gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 2:52 of the second period, netting his first goal of the season off an assist from junior Bobby Allen. Junior forward Mike Lephart doubled the BC advantage at 10:06 of the same stanza. Allen and senior Jeff Farkas assisted on Lephart?s tally.
Minnesota?s Dave Spehar registered his team?s lone goal ? on the power play ? with 47 seconds remaining in the second period.
Senior forward Blake Bellefeuille returned the Eagles? advantage to two goals with a power-play tally at 9:33 of the third period. Mottau assisted on the goal.
Farkas concluded the scoring with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds. The goal was Farkas? eighth of the season. Mottau and sophomore Jeff Giuliano assisted on the tally. The assist was the 100th of Mottau?s collegiate career, making him the 10th player in BC history to reach that mark.
Freshman Tim Kelleher made 22 saves for BC, raising his record to 2-0 on the season. Minnesota?s Adam Hauser also made 22 stops.
Boston College (4-1-0) returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 7 against UMass-Lowell. Game time is 7 p.m. in BC?s Kelley Rink.
