BC Volleyball Falls To Notre Dame, 3-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - Boston College fell 3-0 (15-2, 15-8, 15-10) to BIG EAST foe Notre Dame Saturday in Chestnut Hill. The Fighting Irish are still undefeated in the conference (7-0) while lifting their overall record to 13-6. The Eagles drop to 10-14 overall and 2-5 in the loop.
Christi Girton (Muncie, Ind.) collected 16 of Notre Dame's 37 team kills in the sweep. Denise Boylan (Lisle, Ill.) added 17 assists. Both Kristy Kreher (Birmingham, Mich.) and Jo Jameyson (Alvin, Texas) accumulated eight digs each.
The Eagles were led by Julia El-Hag (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) with her team-leading six kills, seven digs and four service aces. Both Laura DeLong (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) and Lauren Schwer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) executed five kills.
The visitors steadily built upon a 4-0 lead en route to a 15-2 decision in the first game via 13-5 kill advantage.
Game two was more competitive. The Fighting Irish battled to a 8-8 tie after trailing 8-5 with Kreher serving them to two points. With Marcie Bomhack (Waukesha, Wis.) behind the line, ND gained five points, making the score 13-8. ND took two more points for the victory.
The final game saw ties at one-, three- and five-all. BC freshman Lauren Schwer produced a double-dig sequence from the floor to give BC a sideout at 1-1 then BC contributed two more points for a 3-1 lead. Notre Dame regrouped and went up 9-5 before El-Hag's two consecutive service aces made it 7-9. Adrienne Shimmel (Mission Viejo, Calif.) served ND to a 13-8 lead before a BC sideout. The Eagles fought off two match points before conceding the 15-10 loss.
BC hosts Syracuse Sunday (Oct. 31) at 1 p.m.
