CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College fell 3-2 (2-15, 15-1, 0-15, 15-5, 15-12) to BIG EAST foe Seton Hall Sunday in Chestnut Hill. BC dropped to 10-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference while the Pirates improved to 13-9 and 2-4 in the loop.
Jennifer Mumby (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Kari Belin (Hagerstown, Md.) combined for 14 kills with eight- and six-kill efforts, respectively. Kadri Kruus (Tallin, Estonia) made 25 sets in the five-game victory.
Julia El-Hag (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) pounded double-digit kills for the fifth consecutive game and 11th game of the season with 12 to lead all Eagles. Laura DeLong (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) totaled 14 digs. Setter Kyleen Charlton (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Name) made 27 of BC's 35 assists.
BC started strong in game one as Lauren Schwer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) served the Eagles to a 3-0 lead. Her second service stint gave BC three points and an 8-2 advantage. Strong play down the stretch by Kristin Sprinkel (Laguna, Calif./Bishop Luers), DeLong and Rachel Bach (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) led BC to a 15-2 victory.
Seton Hall came back in the second game as Tara Brooks (Fort Macleod, Canada) served the Pirates to eight points, culminating into an 8-0 lead en route to a 15-1 win.
The two teams traded momentum in game three when BC scored all of the game's 15 points. BC rattled off four points with DeLong serving, thanks to a kill and block by Sprinkel. Sprinkel served BC to eight more points with the help of her ace and kills by El-Hag and DeLong.
The gears shifted once again when Seton Hall regrouped after a 6-5 lead in game four, to take control. The Pirates forced a game five with a 15-5 win, as Leanne Thompson (New Philadelphia, Penn.) served Seton Hall to its last seven points.
Seton Hall won the final game with a 15-12 advantage in rally points.
BC does not play again until October 30 when it hosts Notre Dame at 2 p.m.
