CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After dropping the first game 15-8, the Boston College volleyball squad came back to win the next three decisively, defeating Brown University 3-1 (8-15, 16-14, 15-6, 15-8) Wednesday at Power Gym. BC moves one game closer to .500 (10-11, 2-2) while the Bears fall one game under (9-10).
Three different Eagles scored double-digit kill totals, led by Julia El-Hag's (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) 14-kill effort. Both Kristin Sprinkel (Laguna, Calif./Bishop Luers) and Rachel Bach (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) each earned 11 kills with only three errors apiece. The two teamed up for 14 block assists as well.
Freshman Lauren Schwer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) totaled a collegiate best 22 digs, bettering her previous high total of 18, established in the Saint Peter's match. She also served a season best five service aces. Kyleen Charlton (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Name) accumulated 42 sets and 19 digs in the four-game, match victory.
Tomo Nakanishi (Nara, Japan) led all Brown attackers with 19 kills while also topping the defensive columns with her 20-dig effort. Corre Myer (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) had 46 assists overall.
Brown used a 16-13 kill advantage in the first game to take the 15-8 victory over the Eagles. After trailing most of the game, BC climbed to within one at 8-9. But Audrey Anhood (Newport Beach, Calif.) eventually served Brown, with the 11-8 lead, to four points, ending the game.
BC dissipated a 5-12 deficit in the game two. Strong serving late in the game by Laura DeLong (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) and Sprinkel brought the Eagles closer. Schwer served BC to four straight points including the game-winner after the Eagles fought off a Brown game point.
BC took off in the third game, sprinting to a 7-1 lead on a three-ace, serving stint by Schwer. Sprinkel took them to 11-1 with her time behind the line. Stuck on 12 for a while, the Eagles finally rode out the win with Schwer's stellar service that included one more ace.
The Eagles broke a 5-5 tie and never looked back in the fourth game. DeLong and Sprinkel served BC to three points each. Brown battled three match points before falling fittingly on a Schwer kill to end the game at 15-8.
BC hosts Rutgers Friday (Oct. 22). Game time is at 8 p.m.
