Women's Tennis Successful At ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Cynthia Tow, senior Barbara Privrel and senior co-captain Mercedes del Valle each earned 3-0 sinlgles records as Boston College participated in the ECAC Championships hosted by Princeton University Oct. 15-17.
Tow, playing in the number one singles position, did not lose a set in match play. In the team's first match against Temple, she defeated Tamara Truta 6-2, 6-2. Against Dartmouth, she defeated Rebecca Dirkson, 6-3, 6-3. Tow beat Pille Arike of Seton Hall, 6-0, 6-1 in her final match.
Privrel also did not drop a set, playing in the second singles slot. She beat Katarina Kramaric of Temple, 6-3, 6-3. In her Dartmouth match, she defeated Allsion Taff 6-2, 6-4. Against Laura McCracken of Seton Hall, Privrel won 6-1, 6-2.
Del Valle, playing fourth singles, defeated Tanya Zecic of Temple 6-1, 6-0 and Courtney Smalley of Dartmouth, 6-3, 6-2. In her final match, she dropped Seton Hall's Jasmine Wolcott, 6-1, 6-0.
Junior Kiren Fernando ended the weekend with a 2-1 record. She topped Kathleen Pete of Temple, 6-3, 6-3 and also defeated Kuli Lasalle of Seton Hall, 6-4, 6-0. She lost her second match to Sarita Yardi of Dartmouth, 6-1, 1-6, 6-7.
Freshman Anisha Fernando earned a 1-1 record in singles play at the tournament. She defeated Beth Dugeh of Seton Hall, 6-2, 6-4 after falling to Jenny Lange of Dartmouth, 5-7, 6-4.
Senior co-captain Kim Arbuckle played in one singles match, earning a victory over Temple's Nina Kamar, 6-1, 6-4.
Freshman Jessica Engel played in three matches, defaulting in two and dropping the third to Carly Bushleben of Dartmouth, 6-0, 6-1.
The team won its opening match against Temple by a cumulative score of 5-0 to advance to the second round to face Dartmouth. They fell to the Big Green, 5-3. With the loss, the women moved into a new bracket and faced Seton Hall.
