CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - The Boston College volleyball team earned its second-consecutive sweep and fifth of the season with a 3-0 (15-4, 15-3, 15-0) victory over University at Albany Friday in Chestnut Hill. BC defeated Marist College by the same score two days ago in the same venue. Their record is now two games shy of .500 at 9-11 overall.
Brooke Shull (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) posted 12 kills to match her jersey number, leading all Eagle attackers for the second straight match. She was one dig shy of a double-double with nine on the night.
Freshman Rachel Bach (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) registered nine kills while assisting two. Co-captains Laura DeLong (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) and Kyleen Charlton (Tampa, Fla./Academy of the Holy Name) also contributed in the three-game victory. Delong made eight kills, and Charlton, who averages 10.18 sets per game, totaled 33 assists for the night.
Julie Arbitman (Nanuet, NY) led all Danes with five kills. Teammate Maureen Roberts (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made 12 assists.
The Danes recorded half as many kills as the Eagles (20-10) to fall 15-4 in game one. Game two saw Kristin Sprinkel (Laguna, Calif./Bishop Luers) serve three of her five aces in a 10-point run to cap a 15-3 victory. Shull had three kills in that stint, and both Sprinkel and DeLong logged two kills each.
BC committed only one error in 16 attack attempts to race to a 15-0 win in the final game. Strong defensive play, including a two-dig sequence in one rally for Charlton gave BC the sideout at 13-0 as the Eagles continued the momentum for two more points and the match win.
BC hosts Brown Wednesday (Oct. 20). Game time is at 8 p.m.
