NEWTON, Mass. - Freshman forward Casey Schmidt (Newbury Park, Calif.) scored two goals in leading Boston College to a 3-0 blanking of visiting Brown in men?s soccer action Monday.
Schmidt opened the scoring 33 minutes into the match on a feed from Jorgen Lie (Kristianund, Norway). Sophomore Chris Cleary (Milton, Mass.) scored the second Eagle goal just 2:39 later taking a pass from freshman Bobby Thompson (Framingham, Mass.) and putting the ball past Bears goalkeeper Peter Mahoney.
Schmidt capped the scoring on a feed from Cleary in the 69th minute. For the game, Brown outshot the Eagles 13-10 while Mahoney and his replacement Scott Kelmann combined for three saves.
Boston College junior netminder Chris Hamblin (Bristol, England) recorded one save on his way to his third shutout of the year.
Now 4-5-1 overall, Boston College faces a busy week with home BIG EAST contests against St. John?s on Friday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. and against Syracuse on Sunday Oct. 17 at noon.
