Chuck Carmone was hired as head coach prior to the 2020 season and has since led the program to two of its most competitive campaigns.
In 2021, Boston College navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and didn't have a single skier test positive during the season. The Eagles sent a full squad of six to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history at Cannon Mountain.
Parker Biele posted the highest NCAA finish in program history with 13th place in the giant slalom. Biele became not only the first skier in school history win an EISA carnival title (St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface), but also the first to claim the EISA overall title in giant slalom.Â
On the men's side, freshman Zach Simmons became the first male skier ever to reach an EISA podium with second in the giant slalom at the St. Lawrence Carnival. Biele finished first in the EISA GS individual rankings for the season, while Simmons was third.
Following the season, a program-record 12 members of the team were named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team. Biele also qualified for the 2021 World University Games, another first in school history, while Spencer Wright was named an alternate.Â
In Carmone's first season in 2020, the Eagles finished as high as sixth place overall at the Colby Carnival among the highly competitive 13 teams in the EISA. His 30 years of ski race coaching experience helped improve the team throughout the season.
Carmone has coached at Mt. Hood for PSSI Ski Camps, the Cross M Ski Team, Lake Tahoe and Ski Ward, Shrewsbury. He was the camp director at Mt. Abrams, Maine with USST coaching legends Tom Reynolds and Tim Lavallee, and also worked with Tom Barbeau at Jim Cardenalli ski clinics in Belleayre, New York.Â
Â
Carmone also helped coach his son’s Xaverian ski team to a pair of Massachusetts state titles in 2013 and 2016. In addition, his teams won nine league titles. He has also served as a USSA Chief of Race and Chief of Course for the BBTS race program at Waterville Valley.
Â
Carmone was co-captain of the University of Nevada, Reno ski team and a four-year varsity member. He was the managing partner of Nail Communications, which produced award-winning ads for Atomic, Polartec, Stowe, and Loon Mountain.
