Richard is in his first year as the assistant director of student-athlete academic services at Boston College. He brings over 15 years of leadership experience in education and technology. In his role, he provides comprehensive academic counseling to student-athletes and leads the SAAS Academic Enrichment Program.
Mapeza's expertise spans academic administration, information technology, and student development. Prior to his current position, he began his tenure at the Heights as a graduate assistant in 2019 and later served as an administrative program specialist at Boston College. His experience includes managing diverse student support initiatives and implementing technology-driven solutions in educational settings.
Before joining Boston College, Mapeza spent eight years as an Information Communication Technology teacher at Holy Trinity High School in Kingston, Jamaica, where he developed a curriculum and supervised over 200 students and faculty members.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in management of information systems from Excelsior Community College (2008). He has earned two master's degrees from Boston College: an MS in Sports Administration (2022) and an MS in Leadership and Administration with a focus on Project Management (2021).
He is currently completing a graduate certificate in Cybersecurity Risk Management from Boston College's Woods College of Advancing Studies. (In progress 2025)
