Phil Mastro is in his second year at Boston College as the associate director of sports medicine. Since his start in 2023, he has worked with various teams including baseball, track and field, and swim and diving.Â
Before joining the Boston College Sports Medicine department, Phil was the sports medicine coordinator for the New England region for a physical therapy company. Prior to that, he spent seven years working in professional baseball as a licensed athletic trainer.
Mastro is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.Â
Phil is Athletic Training Certified (ATC), a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) in both Massachusetts and West Virginia, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a Certified Exercise Specialist (CES), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), and is knowledgeable in Active Release Therapy of the upper extremity and dry needling.Â
Phil is a member of the Professional Baseball Athletic Training Society (PBATS), National Athletic Training Association (NATA), Athletic Trainers Of Massachusetts (ATOM), Eastern Athletic Trainer's Association (EATA), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Mastro graduated from Lasell University in 2019 earning a master’s degree in rehab sciences. He went on to obtain his doctorate of physical therapy from the Tufts University school of Medicine in 2022.
