Grace Hollowell enters her seventh year at the helm of the Boston College rowing program. She originally joined the staff in the fall of 2018 as an assistant before being promoted to head coach in the fall of 2019. In her first year as head coach, Hollowell led the Eagles to three top 12 finishes at the Head of the Charles regatta and added 11 incoming Eagles for the class of 2024 before the spring season was cancelled due to Covid-19.
In 2022, Hollowell and the Eagles medaled at the Head of the Charles in the Champ 4+ and the Club 4+ event placing fifth respectively. Following the Fall schedule, Hollowell guided the Eagles to three cup victories and led the 2V4+ to the Grand Final at the 2023 ACC Championship.The boat finished fifth tying, the highest finish in BC program history. The Eagles closed out the season with 40+ CRCA Scholar Athletes, four All-ACC athletes, as well as the Academic Advisor Award Winner.
Prior to BC, Hollowell spent four years as the assistant women's coach and recruiting coordinator at Dartmouth College. During her time in the Ivy League, Hollowell coached 23 scholar-athletes and five all-league performers. Primarily working with the V4s and third V8, she led the 3V8 to gold at the Eastern Sprints Championships, with the V4 taking silver in 2018. The same year both crews finished in the top four at the Ivy Championships. Hollowell has also worked as the assistant lightweight coach at Boston University (2013-14), where she coached the N8, 2V, 3V, and IRA LWT V4 boats and as the varsity assistant coach and novice coach at Smith College (2013-13), working with the 2V8 and 3V8 squads.
Outside of collegiate athletics, Hollowell has coached with the Craftsbury Green Racing Project (2018-19) and served as an associate coach for their U23 and senior teams. In 2019 she coached the USA’s U23 Light W2x at the U23 World Rowing Championship in Sarasota, Florida where the crew placed sixth in the world. She also worked with the USA’s U23 M4x and M2x, which placed 13th and 10th respectively at U23 Worlds. In the summer of 2018 Hollowell helped the USA’s U23 M2x and M1x boats qualify for the U23 World Championships in Poland. That same summer, she coached Craftsbury’s M2x and W4x to gold at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Additionally, she has previously coached for Bromfield/Acton-Boxboro Rowing (2010-12) and Saratoga Rowing (2009-13).
Hollowell earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Harvard University, where she captained the Crimson's lightweight crew team. She earned three varsity letters, was twice named team MVP, and was a EAWRC gold medalist. Following her collegiate career, Hollowell received a Master of Science from Smith College.
