John Sherwood enters his fourth season as the Boston College women’s tennis program’s assistant coach in 2018-19. One of the most recognized high-performance coaches in the United States, Sherwood has brought a wealth of experience in development and instruction to The Heights since his arrival in the summer of 2015.
In two decades of coaching, Sherwood has coached and guided hundreds of junior players along the developmental pathway to major conference college programs and into the professional ranks. While developing solid fundamentals in his players, Sherwood also excels in developing players' mental, strategic and problem-solving skills that set the top tier players apart.
Sherwood holds both USPTA Elite Professional and USTA High Performance Coaching certifications.
Sherwood is the former Chief Club Operating Officer of Five Seasons Sports Clubs in Cleveland, Ohio, and Burr Ridge, Ill. He also served as a coach at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. and as the Director of High Performance Tennis at Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham, N.J. In addition he served as a coach for the USTA Spring National Team Championships in each of the last two years.
He has published tennis articles in national and international publications including: tennisrecruiting.net, tennisplayer.net, New York Tennis Magazine and various USPTA publications.
Sherwood played Division I tennis for the University of Toledo, after which he embarked on a business career running national sales organizations, then structuring and operating small-business turnarounds.
