Darnell joins Team USA staff for the upcoming World Junior Championship
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boston College men's hockey assistant coach Brent Darnell has been named a video coach for Team USA at the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, announced today by USA Hockey.
The IIHF World Junior Championship is slated for Dec. 26, 2026 - Jan. 5, 2027 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
Darnell, entering his fourth season on the BC staff in 2026-27, will be making his first appearance at the World Junior Championships with Team USA.
Prior to joining the Eagles ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, Darnell spent four years with the U.S. National Team Development Program where served as an assistant coach for two seasons with the Under-17 and Under-18 squads before spending two years as the assistant director of player personnel.
He previously served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team at the 2022 and 2023 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championships, aiding the program to gold in 2023. On the 2023 squad, he coached six future Eagles, including five 2023 NHL Draft selections.
This will be the second straight year in which a member of the BC coaching staff will be on the Team USA staff following Schiller Family Head Coach Greg Brown serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. last year in Minnesota.
