HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: The Eagles came out strong, starting with the lead and running with it. A front row team made up of Audrey Ross, Cornelia Roach and Isabelle Poehlein caused problems early for Iona. With four kills from Ross, the Eagles were up 9-4. Blocks from Roach and Poehlein maintained the lead while Roach and Marjanovic's combined kills sealed the deal for the first set. The Eagles took the first set 25-14.
Set 2: The Eagles controlled the sets from start to finish. Their defense was strong and their front row even stronger. Ross, Roach, Poehlein again caused problems early and often for Iona. Though Iona started with the lead, the score evened up just twice until at 7-all, Anna Herrington's kill got the Eagles up by two. Blocks by Marjanovic, Roach, denied Iona's fight while Ross continued to find the seam. A cross-court kill by Ross was followed by a big BC run featuring kills from freshmen Marjanovic and Bella Ehrlich. Ross sealed the deal with two final kills to close out the second set. They took the second set 25-19.
Set 3: Iona came out strong in the third, but the Eagles quickly took back the lead. After tying it up at six, kills from Ross and Roach pushed them ahead. An 8-0 run featuring kills from Ross (1), Roach (2), Poehlein (2) and Sofija Marjanovic (1) closed out the first set for the Eagles. Entering the match for the first time, freshman Milly Wolf earned three assists. One of the final plays to seal the deal: a freshman trio of Marjanovic, Wolf and Ehrlic. BC took the final set 25-16.
