The sophomore finished the year with a nation-leading 30 goals and nine game-winning goals
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Boston College men's hockey sophomore forward Ryan Leonard was selected as one of the three Hobey Baker Hat Trick Finalists, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
Leonard, the Hockey East Player of the Year and a Hockey East First Team All-Star, leads the country in goals with 30 and game-winning goals with nine, while sitting sixth in points per game with 1.32. He also had 19 assists for a total of 49 points.
The Massachusetts native had a nation-leading 17-game point streak snapped in the final game of the season. Over the 17-game span, Leonard had 29 points on 17 goals and 12 assists. He posted four three-point games which included hat-tricks in the wins at Boston University (Jan. 24) and at home against UMass Lowell (Jan. 31).
With his goal in the NCAA Tournament opening round game against Bentley, Leonard scored his 30th goal of the campaign, becoming the first player to score 30+ goals in back-to-back seasons since Cam Atkinson did so in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
Recently, Leonard was named the recipient of the 73rd Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born Division I college hockey player in New England.
This marks the second-straight season in which Boston College had a Hobey Baker Hat Trick Finalist as Cutter Gauthier was one of the three finalists in 2024.
Following the conclusion of BC's season, Leonard signed an entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals and made his NHL debut on Tuesday evening.
The winner of the Hobey Baker Award will be announced on Friday, April 11 at the Frozen Four in St. Louis.
