ARLINGTON, Va. – Boston College sophomore forward Ryan Leonard has signed a three-year entry-level deal with the National Hockey League's (NHL) Washington Capitals, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
Leonard was selected eighth overall by the Capitals in the 2023 NHL Draft.
"Ryan had a prolific two-year career at Boston College," said Schiller Family Head Coach Greg Brown. "It was a pleasure working with him and we look forward to seeing him compete at the next level."
In 2024-25, Leonard led the country in goals with 30 and game-winning goals with nine. A Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist, the Massachusetts native earned numerous accolades for his play on the ice, including being named Hockey East Player of the Year, a Hockey East First Team All-Star, and the 73rd recipient of the Walter Brown Award.
Over the course of his two-year career on the Heights, Leonard skated in 78 games, tallying 109 points on 61 goals and 48 assists. He became the first player in Division I men's hockey to score 30+ goals in back-to-back seasons for the first time since Cam Atkinson did so in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
He etched his name into the program record books as a freshman, scoring a new program record of 31 goals as a freshman on his way to earning Second Team All-American honors.
A two-time gold medalist at the IIHF World Junior Championship, Leonard captained the United States in the 2025 tournament and led the team to its second-straight gold medal for the first time in the history of the tournament.
