No. 1 Eagles Fall to No. 16 UMass on Friday Night

Gabe Perreault finished with two points; Ryan Leonard scored his 24th goal of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 1 Boston College suffered a 3-2 defeat to No. 16 UMass in Hockey East action on Friday evening at Kelley Rink. Gabe Perreault and Ryan Leonard each scored for the Eagles, while Jacob Fowler made 26 saves.
BC falls to 21-6-1 overall and 13-4-1 in Hockey East, while Massachusetts improves to 16-11-2 overall and 7-8-2 in league play.
UMass opened the scoring just 1:14 into the contest as Lucas Mercuri found Jack Musa in front of the net as Musa worked the puck around the crease and into the net for the early 1-0 lead.
BC scored the equalizer midway through the period on the power play. Andre Gasseau's initial shot was saved, but Teddy Stigaquickly found Perreault to take advantage of the goaltender leaving his left side open for the wrist shot from Perreault to tie the game.
The Minutemen regained the lead just seconds before time expired in the second period as Cole O'Hara was able to fire a shot past Fowler with just one second remaining in the period. UMass pushed the lead to two when Kenny Connors scored an empty net goal with just over 90 seconds remaining.
The Eagles made one final push to get back into the game as Leonard scored an extra attacker goal off a feed across the middle from Perreault with less than 30 seconds to go in the third to cut the deficit back down to one. The Minutemen were able to fend off the BC offense in the final few seconds to close out the game.
Michael Hrabal made 37 saves for the Minutemen.
