Six Eagles Win Gold Medals at World Junior Championship

Boston College now has 19 players who have earned a total of 24 gold medals
OTTAWA, Ontario – Six members of the Boston College men's hockey team – forwards James Hagens, Ryan Leonard, Gabe Perreault and Teddy Stiga, and defensemen Drew Fortescue and Aram Minnetian – won gold medals on Sunday as the U.S. National Junior Team beat Finland 4-3 to win the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Stiga scored the game-winning goal in overtime, his first goal of the tournament. Hagens tallied the first USA goal of the game, with Leonard and Perreault picking up the assists. The U.S. claimed its seventh gold medal at the World Junior Championship. Team USA won the event in back-to-back years for the first time in the country's history.

Boston College led all college hockey programs with six players on the U.S. roster. BC now has 19 players who have earned a total of 24 gold medals in the history of the tournament. 22 of those medals have been won by American skaters.

Leonard finished second in the tournament in scoring with 10 points on five goals and five goals assists. He was named the Most Valuable Player and Best Forward of the World Junior Championship and finished with two assists in the gold medal game on Sunday.

Perreault (3-7-10) was tied for second in scoring at the event, while Hagens (5-4-9) was tied for third. Stiga added two assists during the tournament to go along with the game-winning goal.

Fortescue skated in all seven games on the blue line, posting a plus-7 rating. Minnetian played in six games, finishing with two assists, both in the semifinal game against Czechia.

The U.S. finished the tournament with a 5-1-1-0 record and earned its 16th tournament medal.
