CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Director of Track & Field and Cross Country has announced the hiring of Elisabeth Danis to the coaching staff ahead of the 2024-25 season.Â
ELISABETH DANIS
Elisabeth Danis joins the Boston College staff as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 season. She will be working with the distance runners for both the Men's and Women's cross country and track & field teams.Â
Before joining the Eagles, Danis spent the 2023-24 season as assistant coach of the Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country teams at the University of New Mexico, primarily assisting with the distance runners.
A native of Nottingham, N.H., Danis began her running career at the University of Alabama in 2016. After two seasons at Alabama, Danis transferred to the University of New Hampshire where she led the Wildcats to an America East Cross Country title in 2019. Danis also finished as the individual runner-up, while also placing eighth as an individual at the 2019 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional. After three years with New Hampshire, Danis decided to use her Grad Year at Gonzaga University for the 2021-22 season. Â
During her time at Gonzaga, the Bulldogs finished second overall in 2021 as a team at the West Coast Conference Championships thanks to Danis' 10th-place individual finish. Gonzaga also finished fourth at West Regionals, where Danis placed 27th overall.
In 2022 Danis joined the Gonzaga staff for the spring season, where she was part of the staff that led the Bulldogs to a program-best No. 21 national ranking in the USTFCCCA poll as well as a program-best No. 4 ranking in the west region. Danis led the distance runners in 2023, with four of her athletes qualifying for NCAA Prelims. Many of Danis' athletes excelled under her coaching, including multiple personal and program records.Â
Danis spent the 2023-24 season as the assistant coach of the Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country teams at the University of New Mexico. Danis' work with the distance runners turned to success in Cross Country as the Lobos placed first on the Men's side and fourth overall on the Women's side at the Mountain West Championship. New Mexico finished third and seventh at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship, while also having multiple athletes compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Lobos also saw success in both the indoor and outdoor season, with many athletes competing in top meets across the country. New Mexico placed top-five on both the Men's and Women's side at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, while also placing fifth and sixth place at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships.Â
Danis' success transferred over the Track and Field where Habtom Samuel won the Men's 10K individual NCAA title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while also earning first-team All-American honors.Â
Watson on Danis: "Elisabeth came highly recommended from some of the most respected coaches in the NCAA. She brings valuable recruiting experience, a positive attitude and an enthusiasm to help us achieve the goals of this program. We are excited to add her to our staff."Â
The Eagles open up the 2024 Cross Country season on Sept. 27 with the Women's team traveling to Madison, Wisc. for Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, while the Men's team will begin action on Oct. 5 with the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
