
Benton’s Fall Season Ends at the NCAA Individual Championship

WACO, Texas -- Freshman Olivia Benton of the Boston College women's tennis team competed in the NCAA Singles Championship held on Nov. 19 in Waco, Texas.
Benton's Fall season came to an end Tuesday, as she was defeated in the round of 64 in singles at the NCAA Individual Championship.
Benton fell to Kailey Evans of San Diego, the No. 89 ranked player in the preseason ITA singles rankings, 6-3, 77-64. Benton trailed 3-0 in the opening set, answering with three straight to lock the set 3-3. However, the serve went back to Evans assisting in her gaining control of the set, closing out the first, 6-3.
In the second set, Benton held her serve to start, but Evans regained it in the next frame, the serve traded once more for the set to be locked at 2-2. Evans went on to take two straight sets, for Benton to add one, 4-3. Benton continued to fight out of the deficit, locking the set 5-5. Both athletes gained a set while receiving, 6-6. The match closed on a well fought final set with Benton gaining two straight points, and possessing a 3-1 advantage. Evans made a move locking points 3-3. Both athletes traded points, for the match to close on two straight Torero points, 77-64.
Benton was just one of seven freshmen in the singles field – Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo (Texas), Irina Balus (Duke), Ashton Bowers (Texas), Kate Fakih (UCLA), Valerie Glozman (Stanford) and Merna Refaat (Auburn).
Benton finished the fall season with a 13-3 record in singles.
