Eagles Open EISA Season at Colby Carnival
January 20, 2024 | Skiing
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Eagles began the 2024 EISA season at Sugarloaf Mountain this weekend, competing in the Colby Carnival.Â
The soft snow and cold weather conditions proved to be a challenge for all competitors, as it became increasingly difficult for participants to climb the rankings throughout the second day. Nonetheless, Boston College put together a strong performance, finishing fifth overall for men's alpine to open the new season.
"Overall I'm proud of the team's efforts and accomplishments this weekend" said head coach Alex Norden. "The athletes continuously stepped up for one another, and proved they are ready to be in race prep mode. We learned that we need some fine tuning to do in GS, and need to work on our balance in slalom. Bode has been very physically and mentally strong this season. I'm so happy for him, and I'm not surprised about his result. Nick skied pretty well during his first carnival, and certainly has more in the tank. I know Morgan would have had a great result both days, had it not been for her 2nd run DNF today. She is okay and should be comfortable to be back within the next few days."
Nick Kirwood (1:44.99) led the men's side in giant slalom action on day one, placing 17th in his Eagles debut starting from the 31st spot. Bode Flanigan (1:45.52) placed shortly behind at 21st.Â
Morgan Ellis finished 19th on for the women's giant slalom, placing seventh on her second run with a time of 53.69. Lauren Hunter was the next Eagle on the rankings, earning herself the 35th slot with a total time of 1:51.63.
Bode Flanigan (1:41.72) recorded a personal best sixth-place finish on day two, capping off his weekend with a third-place second run (48.47). Ryan Bianchi (1:43.30) and Nick Kirwood (1:46.68) also scored EISA points for the Eagles, finishing 22nd and 29th respectively.
Molly Queally placed 31st in her debut for Boston College with a time of 1:50.60. Morgan Ellis began the second day with a 24th place first run with a time of 49.87, however recorded a DNF in her second run.
