Margo Carlin Scores Game-Tying Goal With 1:43 Left in Fourth Quarter
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 12 Eagles (6-4, 1-2 ACC) took another top-10 team to the limit on Friday, falling to the No. 10 Orange (8-2, 1-2 ACC) in double overtime in a 3-2 affair.
Mia Garber got the scoring started for the Eagles, tipping a penalty corner shot from Simone Hefting into the top shelf in the final moments of the first quarter. Syracuse would answer later in the second quarter to even the score at 1-1 heading into halftime. The Orange would double their tally on the day in the fourth quarter, as the Eagles trailed for the first time in the game with 5:50 remaining. Captain forward Margo Carlin would once again show her scoring capabilities in the clutch, netting a goal in her sixth-straight contest to even the score at 2-2 with 1:43 remaining from an assist by Peyton Hale.
Both sides battled throughout the first extra 10 in a scoreless overtime period. 1:55 seconds into double overtime, BC surrendered a penalty stroke that would eventually be the game-winning opportunity for Syracuse, ending an evenly-matched bout 3-2.
