Eagles Battle Syracuse for Spot in National Championship

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College sets its sights on a sixth straight national title on Friday when it faces Syracuse on ESPNU at 5:30 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.Â

Last Time Out
The Eagles put on a 20-6 rout last Thursday against Notre Dame in the quarterfinal matchup at Newton.Belle Smith turned in her best outing of the season with a season-high five goals and eight points thanks to three assists. Jenn Medjid posted four scores, three goals and seven points in the triumph. Kayla Martello and Courtney Weeks registered hat tricks, while Mckenna Davis posted three helpers, one goal and four points.Â

Five Eagles Named IWLCA All-Americans
Jenn Medjid, Sydney Scales and Belle Smith were named first-team IWLCA All-Americans, while Cassidy Weeks and Mckenna Davis were named to the second team. Medjid is one of five players in the nation with at least 100 points, while she is first in the ACC and fourth with 77 goals. Sydney Scales leads the team with 37 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers. Belle Smith is the only player in the country with at least 50 goals, 30 assists, 25 draw controls, 25 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Mckenna Davis leads the team and the ACC with 58 assists, while she is second with 84 points. Cassidy Weeks has 32 goals and nine helpers for 41 points.
Davis Making Strides
Davis' 53-point improvement is the 11th highest jump in points from last season thanks to her 26 goals and 58 assists. She is second on the team with 84 points, while the 58 assists are the second most in a single season.Â
Smith Success Versus Syracuse
Smith has seen her fair share of success against the Orange. In six games against 'Cuse, she has 17 goals and 10 assists, while averaging 4.5 points against Syracuse. She had two goals and five assists for seven points in the win earlier this season.Â
Stingy Defense
The Eagles' defense has been nothing short of stellar since the beginning of the postseason in the ACC Tournament. BC has held all five opponents through the ACC and NCAA Tournament to under 10 goals. In addition, BC held UNC scoreless over the final 22:57 of the ACC Championship en route to the 11-9 win. The Eagles also held Penn to seven goals (averaged 14.5), while limiting Notre Dame to two of its lowest scoring outputs. BC is 14-0 this season when tallying at least five caused turnovers.Â

The Eagles are 10-17 all-time against Cuse, including the 17-16 come-from-behind win on the road. BC ended the game on a 5-1 run that was capped off by a Davis goal for the game winner. Boston College has won seven of the last nine meetings against 'Cuse.Â
