Claire Mensi has been named the next captain of the Boston College women’s soccer team.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Graduate student Claire Mensi has been named the next captain of the Boston College women's soccer team ahead of the 2023 season, head coach Jason Lowe announced on Monday.
"Claire's immediate impact on our culture and her previous experience as a captain make her an excellent choice to lead us," said Lowe. "She is well-respected by her teammates and understands what it takes to be successful."
In her first season as an Eagle in 2022, Mensi played in 16 of 18 contests while making seven starts. The Katonah, N.Y. native scored the game-winning goal in BC's season-opener and went on to finish the year with two goals and 14 shots. Prior to arriving on the Heights, Mensi played four seasons at Bucknell University where she was a two-year captain and helped lead the Bison to the 2021 Patriot League championship along with an NCAA Tournament berth.
In addition to Mensi, Lowe announced that Laura Gouvin, Emily Sapienza, Sonia Walk and Wiebke Willebrandt will serve on the team's Leadership Council.
"This spring, our team took a fresh look at our leadership structure. We came up with a model that amplifies each of our rising seniors' natural leadership qualities and provides great support to our captain. I'm excited to see the work this group continues to do together."
Gouvin, Sapienza, Walk and Willebrandt are all rising seniors.
