BC takes 4 of 5 points in historic win
CLEMSON, S.C. — The No. 51 Boston College Eagles (9-6, 2-5) defeated No. 46 Clemson for their first road victory at Clemson in program history, taking down the Tigers 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
"This was a total team win," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "Everyone contributed and played great tennis. We have been playing better doubles recently and winning the doubles point today really gave us positive energy going into singles. These ACC matches are so competitive. We had never won at Clemson before. It's really a testament to all the hard work from the players to beat a solid Clemson team on the road."
Sophia Edwards and Stephanie Sanchez started the day with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, and the top doubles team of Marice Aguiar and Laura Lopez clinched the first point for the Eagles with a 6-4 win. Hailey Wilcox and Seren Agar remained strong in their match, playing to a 5-5 tie at No. 2 doubles before the point was clinched.
Freshman Natalie Eordekian opened the scoring in singles play, putting BC up 2-0 with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. Sophia Edwards followed suit at No. 3, defeating No. 125 Daniella Medvedeva in straight sets, with her ranked singles win making 3-0 Eagles.
Stephanie Sanchez clinched the win for Boston College, winning in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5 to secure the Eagles' first ever road victory at Clemson.
