Eagles bring in four student athletes on National Signing Day
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College volleyball is excited to announce the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to join the Eagles in the fall of 2024.
This class features one signee each from the states of Ohio, California, Indiana, and New York.
Joining the Eagles are setter Lucy Mott of Toledo, Ohio, Outside hitter Danica Rach of Porter Ranch, Calif., Opposite hitter Isabelle Poehlein of Zionsville, Ind., and Outside hitter/middle blocker Sequoia Layne of White Plains, N.Y.
Lucy Mott, S, Toledo, Ohio
"Lucy came to campus as a sophomore and won everyone over with her skillset
and her personality. We had her at a camp during the summer and after that a
good chunk of our roster wanted to make sure we as coaches knew that was the
setter they wanted to play with in the future. She locates the ball exceptionally
well and has some experience in the USA Volleyball pipeline that will carry a lot of
weight in her preparation for the jump to the college level."
Danica Rach, OH, Porter Ranch, Calif.
"Danica is a real 6 rotation attacker that has a great platform and feel for the ball.
She has a huge advantage over opponents as she possesses a high volleyball IQ
that allows her to stay one step ahead of her competition. She is one of the more
crafty and effective attackers I've seen in a long time and is able to take over a
match in a rather unassuming and quiet manner. She has always been able to
play up to great competition and I think she will be able to make a fairly smooth
and quick transition to this next level."
Isabelle Poehlein, OPP, Zionsville, Ind.
"Iz is someone that has gotten better and better over the past few years. Every
time we see her play there's something new that we notice that is going to make
her such a versatile front row option. She is hitting the ball harder than ever and I
know she'll be an effective point scorer at the college level. She comes from the
same high school and club as Anna Murphy and that's worked out really well for
us so far. We have big plans for Iz to come in and have a huge impact for us in the
coming years!"
Sequoia Layne, OH/M, White Plains, N.Y.Â
"Sequoia is a high-flying and dynamic point scorer. She is one of the more
physical under the radar attackers in her age group but I think the sky is limit as
far as the potential for Sequoia. She is coming from a region that is a little smaller
for volleyball but as soon as she is able to catch up to the physicality and speed of
the college game, I think she has the opportunity to have an outstanding career
on the Heights. She's someone that I think you'll see get better and better every
year."
