Sailing Continues Impressive Fall Season

Eagles place top-two at BU Invite and Smith Trophy
BOSTON, Mass. –  Boston College Sailing completed its fourth weekend of the fall season by competing in three races, the BU Invitational, Smith Trophy, and the Danmark Trophy. The Eagles placed top-ten in all three races, including a first place finish at the BU Invitational.
The Eagles started off the weekend with a win at the BU Invitational. Boston College finished first place with a total of 40 points, 32 points ahead of second place Tufts. The A division team of Nick Budington and Gabrielle Trinter totaled 30 points, while finishing top-five in eight of nine races, including three first place finishes. The B division team of James O'Gwen, Peter Busch, and Lourdes Gallo dominated the invitational, finishing first in eight of the nine races. The trio accumulated ten points for the team, adding up to the total of 40 points overall for Boston College at the BU invitational. Tufts and MIT rounded out the top-five.Â
Boston College continued the weekend with another great finish at the Smith Trophy, hosted by MIT. The Eagles placed second overall as a team with 57 points, finishing just five points behind first-place MIT. The Eagles' A division team of Ian Hopkins Guerra and Emily Marlas totaled 35 points, and finished the weekend with seven top-five finishes out of the nine races. The B division team consisting of Ryan McGauley and Kennedy Laureigh took control of the regatta, placing top-two in six of nine races while also logging four first-place finishes. The duo totaled 22 points, which contributed to the 57 points and second-place finish for the Eagles. Rhode Island, Roger Williams, and Harvard rounded out the top-fiveÂ
The Eagles finished the busy weekend with a top-ten finish at the Danmark Trophy hosted by the Coast Guard. Boston College placed eighth-overall with 264 points. The A division team of Michael Kirkman and Sara Schumann totaled 123 points, with five top-five placements.Â
The duo finished tenth overall out of twenty A division teams. The B division team consisting of Colleen O'Brien and Libby Redmond totaled 141 points, while having eight top-ten finishes throughout the fourteen races. Harvard, Dartmouth, Coast Guard, Brown, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Roger Williams rounded out the top 8 placements.Â
