January 07, 2023 | Men's Hockey
BOSTON – Boxborough native Cam Burke scored his first two goals in a Boston College sweater, powering the Eagles to a 4-2 victory over No. 15 UMass on Saturday night at Fenway Park. BC improved to 4-1-0 all-time at Fenway, including four straight wins.
Â
Boston College pushed its record to 8-6-4 (5-3-3 HEA) following the non-conference victory and moved to 7-1-0 in its last eight meetings with the Minutemen (9-8-3, 3-6-1 HEA).
Â
In his return from the World Junior Championship, rookie Cutter Gauthier opened the scoring just 2:25 into the night when he fired a shot glove side from the top of the right wing circle to beat Luke Pavicich. Cade Alami collected the lone assist on the play.
Â
Michael Cameron tied the game at the 9:28 mark, lifting a backhand over Mitch Benson's glove from close range at the tail-end of a UMass power play.
Â
Burke restored the lead for Boston College at 12:41 when he tipped a right wing shot-pass from Lukas Gustafsson blocker side with the man advantage for the graduate student's first BC goal. Andre Gasseau picked up an assist as the Eagles led 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Â
Burke added his second of the night from Oskar Jellvik 13 minutes into the middle frame, deflecting the rookie's centering pass into a similar location to beat Pavicich inside the left post.
Â
The Minutemen pulled a goal back on the power play through Ryan Ufko 3:15 into the third, but Eamon Powell sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final 10 seconds from Gauthier and Aidan Hreschuk.
Benson posted 23 saves, including nine in the third period.Â
Â
BC finished the night with a 37-25 advantage in shots on goal, including a 28-15 edge in the first two periods. Both teams scored twice on the power play and Boston College won the faceoff battle 30-24.
